Woollen Mill - Harris Street

The Warrnambool Woollen Mill redevelopment is the first brownfield site of its kind in Warrnambool.  The site currently has 63 individual dwellings ranging in size from 182-495m2.  Design solutions have taken into account building around parts of a former factory, old sandstone buildings, timber and steel framed sheds.

The result has been successful in meeting current housing demands, with a mix of 2 bedroom and 3 bedroom dwellings. 

For example the former dream spun building which was a large two storey shed with a concrete first floor was adapted by working around the existing structure, cutting out concrete to create light wells and court yards to the new ground floor living areas of the apartments.  Existing structural steel that supports the upper floor has been left exposed as a reminder of the former structure.
