Warrnambool City Council is undertaking a flood investigation of riverine and stormwater flooding in Allansford.
A flood investigation is a comprehensive investigation of flood behavior for an area. It provides detailed information about the nature of flood risk including the distribution, extent, depths, levels and velocity of floodwaters for a range of storm events including historic and design flood events.
The development of a Stormwater Management Strategy (SWMS) is a key component of the Allansford Strategic Framework Plan.
The SWMS will identify existing constraints on the stormwater system in Allansford and will guide future stormwater management infrastructure and development within the township. The strategy will consider and aim to manage both stormwater inundation and the quality of water flowing to the Hopkins River. The drainage for Allansford makes it particularly important that we consider river flooding and local stormwater management together. River based flood mapping will be an important input to stormwater system performance within the township.
Council is working with Insight Planning, the Glenelg Hopkins Catchment Management Authority and experienced consultants Water Technology on this project.
Council has reached out to Allansford residents and wants to hear about your experiences of flooding.

We’re also setting up a listening post on Tuesday, 29 August 2023 at the Allansford Hall where community members can chat with officers from Council and GHCMA, as well as a representative of Water Technology. The listening post will be open from 3:30pm to 6:30pm and members of the community are welcome to attend at any time during this timeframe.
