What we are consulting you about

The draft Active Warrnambool Strategy 2025-2035 is currently open for public consultation. The Active Warrnambool Strategy provides Council with an evidence-based framework to guide the planning, provision, and management of sport and active recreation opportunities over the next ten years.

This draft Strategy responds to demographic changes, participation trends, pockets of population growth and community aspirations to ensure facilities and activities are inclusive, accessible and sustainable.

Physical activity and open space play a vital role in Warrnambool. Physical activity and sport contribute significantly to the social wellbeing of residents and visitors. The revised draft Strategy will position Warrnambool to meet the diverse sport and recreation needs of the community.

The draft Strategy covers:

  • Traditional and social sport, and active recreation.

  • Targeted infrastructure improvements and building club capacity.

  • Opportunities for everyone at every stage of life to participate in welcoming and inclusive environments which foster learning, connection, health and wellbeing.

To deliver on the vision and goals set out in the draft Strategy, Council will drive action through a targeted, coordinated, and collaborative approach. Council’s role will focus on strategic leadership, partnerships, advocacy, and capacity building to ensure that sport and recreation facilities and programs meet the needs of our growing and diverse community.

Consultation FAQs

What can I provide feedback on?

Feedback is being sought on the draft strategy and any information presented in the document. This includes:

  • Whether the information is correct and accurate.
  • Whether previous feedback provided is reflected in the document.
  • Whether the vision and guiding principles support the key strategic objectives identified.

What feedback has already been considered?

Broad community consultation for this Strategy has already taken place where the community was asked for their general opinions and aspirations for Sport and Active Recreation within the City. This feedback has informed the development of the Strategy. We are now seeking feedback on the Strategy itself, so this can be considered before finalising the document for Council adoption.

Do I have to play sport to provide feedback?

No, feedback is sought from all community members not just participants in organised sport.
