Council is planning a sports and community centre to be located in Brierly Recreation Reserve and is seeking input as to how the centre can best meet the community's needs.
The Brierly Reserve Master Plan (2012) and subsequent feasibility plan (2013) identified the need for a sports and community centre at the reserve that would meet the needs of the growing population in north and north-east Warrnambool.
Given the significant demographic changes that have occurred in North Warrnambool since these early plans, Council is re-engaging with community to ask about their current and future needs in relation to the proposed community centre.
Community engagement will provide an opportunity for the North Warrnambool community to have a voice in the functional design brief for a new sports and community centre.
Project outcomes
• Creation of a vision for a new sports and community centre to be located at Brierly Recreation Reserve that captures the aspirations and practical priorities of local residents and other stakeholders.
• A report that synthesises and summarises the findings of the community engagement into a clear vision, which can inform a business case.
Scope
The business case will provide justification for undertaking a construction and landscaping project that includes, at a minimum:
• A sports pavilion with female friendly and accessible change rooms for players and umpires, storage, and shared social space.
• A community hall with kitchen facilities.
• Meeting rooms.
This scope may need to be expanded depending on the outcome of community engagement
